Esperanza Academy is seeking a part-time Episcopal Chaplain to support the spiritual life and development of our students, faculty, and broader school community. Grounded in Episcopal traditions, the Chaplain leads worship, provides pastoral care, and cultivates an environment of spiritual growth and interfaith understanding consistent with Esperanza's commitment to equitable, justice-centered education.

This is a focused, part-time nine-month role (20 hours/month, approx. 5 hours/week) centered on the areas where a chaplain's presence matters most: leading chapel, offering pastoral care, and marking key moments in the life of the school. We welcome applications from ordained Episcopal clergy members and from laypeople with significant experience in spiritual leadership alike; both are equally encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead regular chapel services that reflect student interests and concerns, draw on Episcopal traditions to broaden students' faith perspectives, and nurture spiritual development rooted in belonging and grace

• Provide compassionate pastoral care to students, faculty, and staff, offering guidance and support in times of need

• Convene and lead meetings of the student Chapel Leadership Team, and support student Chapel Leaders in their growth as worship leaders

  Bring a restorative justice-centered approach to chapel, weaving its themes and practices into services and pastoral care

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; Master of Divinity or equivalent theological education preferred

• Deep knowledge of Episcopal traditions, liturgy, and practices

• Meaningful experience working with children, ideally middle-school-aged students, and prior experience in chaplaincy or pastoral roles, preferably within a school setting

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster interfaith understanding across a diverse community

Compensation

Salary range: $12,000 for a nine (9) month contract.
