Hope Rising: Las Trés Hermanas
Documentary Short Film
Hope Rising: Las Trés Hermanas is an uplifting short film (under 25 minutes) illuminating the stories of three sisters as they move through Esperanza Academy and into the world. Janelly is a quiet leader. Gissel is a talented artist. Maritza is a savvy business student. Their mother, Elizabeth, a wise matriarch, and their father, Ventura, as hard a worker as they come. They are all of these things and so much more.
How do the layered identities of the Ramirez family reveal our community’s strength, resiliency, and beauty? How does Esperanza Academy walk alongside our students and their families throughout their journeys? What does community cultural wealth mean and why does it matter? From Guatemala to Lawrence, from middle school to high school, and from college to whatever they dream of next, you’ll enjoy this glimpse into the heart of Esperanza Academy.
Our one-of-a-kind approach to urban education goes beyond middle school providing Esperanza scholars with the resources to thrive into high school and through college. From laptops to meals to academic support and tuition assistance, we do everything we can to support our students and alumnae to embrace their brilliance.
In order to be tuition-free and independent, we rely 100% on private funding through the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, and community organizations.
