Guiding Principles for Learning

  • Ensure all students grow academically through in-person and/or remote learning.  

  • Help students and adults develop social-emotional wellbeing, including self-care practices.

  • Support educators to meet the needs of students.


Key Priorities for Learning

  • Focus on ensuring continued academic growth for every student

    • Develop a learning plan that:

      • Utilizes principles of Universal Design for Learning to reach and provide access to all students (3)

      • Provides opportunities for creativity and agency (3)

      • Is culturally responsive

      • Prioritizes critical skills (3)

      • Measures progress equitably and regularly (3)

      • Establishes how learners will demonstrate progress

      • Has clear expectations and systems of accountability  and communication (3)

      • Adapts seamlessly-ish to in-person or remote learning

    • Provide professional development for teachers to use tools and provide high-quality learning

    • Develop a contingency plan for staff and student absence

  • Help students develop their self-care practices and maintain social-emotional wellbeing

    • Provide accessible and inclusive communities of care (Advisory, Music Therapy, Chapel, pastoral care)

    • Provide access to a library of resources, and tools/support to navigate

  • Help students develop executive functioning skills (see elements of the learning plan under Guiding Principle #1 for related key priorities)
